The University of Pittsburgh Emergency Medicine Residency offers a three-year program committed to the training of emergency physicians who will assume leadership roles in clinical care, research, teaching, and administration.
Research
An essential element in establishing the credibility of any medical specialty is the scholarly activity it engenders, including in the form of high-quality laboratory and clinical research.
Teaching
Emergency Medicine residents have extensive opportunities to serve as educators, in the clinical setting of the Emergency Department, in the prehospital realm, and in the classroom and simulation setting.
Administration
The emergency physician's expertise must often extend beyond the clinical arena. Thus, another goal of the training program is to prepare residents to play leadership roles in emergency department administration and in the planning and management of EMS systems and other health care-related programs.
