This year our department had two physicians receive the Award for Commitment and Excellence in Service (ACES). The award is given to honor staff who exemplify UPMC's core values and less than 1 percent of UPMC staff receive this award.

Adam Tobias, MD, MPH, was chosen because of his outstanding skills, dedication and compassion in both the emergency departments and in preparing UPMC for external threats and large scale needs by leading our disaster planning and training.

Charissa Pacella, MD, is our first two-time awardee. She was recognized for not only being an outstanding physician and leader at UPMC Presbyterian but also for her abilities to improve sepsis care across UPMC.
