UPMC Department of Emergency Medicine Provides Medical Care for Dicks Sporting Goods - City of Pittsburgh 5KRace and Marathon With a Team of More Than 350 Volunteers

On May 5-6th,  the UPMC Department of Emergency Medicine lead a team of more than 350 volunteers providing Medical Care for the runners in the Dicks Sporting Goods - City of Pittsburgh 5K race and Marathon. 

The Medical Team consisted of professionals from UPMC Center for Sports Medicine and the Department of Emergency Medicine, along with the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS and several EMS agencies from across the region.  The group staffed 16 Aid stations along the course and specialized field hospital at the Finish line.

Emergency Medicine faculty, fellows, residents and researchers cared for a record number of ill or injured runners along the course and in the finish line tent. Over 350 runners received treatment for a variety of problems including heat related illness, sprains,
strains, chest pain and respiratory problems.
